Retrospective Notes 2023.11.30 - ISISComputingGroup/ibex_developers_manual GitHub Wiki

Chair Timekeeper Note Taker
DM ?? DK

Items from last retrospective:

  • Wiki restructuring: catch up with ES when returned.
  • Central MySQL service: SCD can host, but need requirements first. E.g. Possibly 20 instruments x 20 Gb x 5 cycles per year -> ~2Tb per year. Motor positions particularly useful to log for reinstating. Suggest separate meeting to discuss.
  • Should we have Standup every day?: Been trying 30 minutes limit. Feeling is that not much quicker, but an improvement. Suggest host checks errors before meeting to avoid digging through links and logs. LC felt hosting went more smoothly when checked pages beforehand. Depends on number of errors.
  • PI board for planning: Will use for planning meeting on 11/01/2024. Report back next sprint retrospective.
  • Merchandise: Regarding other groups' policy on keeping jumpers, nothing back from MN yet as been on leave. No problem ordering jumpers as company in science warehouse. DK will order with JH help so that FA can approve.
  • Flat GitHub structure: Add pull requests in tickets to development workflow to avoid automatic closing when merging a single PR. Need some investigation of GitHub behaviour as still seems to do this.
  • Documentation: Still lacking in some areas, but external users say IBEX wiki very useful and extensive.

Items from this retrospective:

  • Weekly coffee rolling rota: LC has created calendar invitations.
  • Migrate new project board style: Now checks are done via application rather than automation(?). May create problems for existing checks if converted. ZS will try on current PI board and report back.
  • Regular Code reviews: Each Monday Standup meeting been extended to 1hr to accommodate code review. First one this week which went well. Thanks to JH for stepping in.
  • JH mentioned EPICS meeting and asked how many from group would go. Includes training sessions, so good for new-starters. April 15th-18th 2024, week before a cycle. Another EPICS meeting in October and NOBUGS in September.
  • KVLB highlighted next sprint is only three weeks to avoid cycle clash.

Other comments (Mad/Glad/Sad)

  • FAA sad that many tickets still under review after Christmas break – anomaly because of long break and people forgot which tickets they were reviewing? Suggest look at first five ProjectBoard warnings each week and ask about reviews status. Can remove and re-add 'under review' labels to reset check.
  • KVLB sad about lack of responses from ARGUS instrument scientists.
  • All glad that Christmas meal went well – thanks to WS and DM.
  • FAA glad most tickets complete and reviewed before end of sprint, especially those for release.
  • LC glad system tests green before building release next week.
  • LJ glad that gap closed between tickets and reviews on burndown chart.
