hello!!!! hi!!!!! thanks for finally recognizing that the railpower goobs should be protected at all costs!!!!

Railpower Technologies was formed in 2001 in Vancouver, British Columbia by a Frank Donnelly and a Gerard Koldyk. Donnelly would later also form TractivePower in 2010. They were mainly here to experiment with hybrid locomotives. The whole ‘hybrid scheme’ was really just a diesel generator powering a fuck ton of batteries that may or may not make your eyes cease to exist just by the existence of a burning match.

Not like they had a problem with diesel however. In fact, most of their products were actually diesel powered gensets such as their very popular RP20BDs. These usually used GE Dash 7 and GP9 bases, and similar approaches for other models such as the SD40-2 for the RP20CD.

One thing that they DID have a problem though was the fact that the company was about to get swallowed by R.J. Corman and shat out as a subsidiary, in which they did in 2009 after they went bankrupt. Despite this, production continued in the plant at Erie, Pennsylvania, and the designs were even revised a bit. However, of course, as we know, the Genset was mainly a gimmick, and after R.J. Corman caught wind of this in 2020, Railpower was shut down, as was the production in Erie.
