Undo and History
Every organise run (and every committed staging run) is recorded, so it can be reversed. Undo never deletes anything.
Undo the last run
Undo last (Ctrl+Z) moves every file of the newest run back to where it was. The confirmation names the run: date, number of files and folder.
Undo an older run
History⦠lists the undoable runs, newest first, with date and time (local time), number of files and folder. All folders share one history, so the folder column tells the runs apart; Open folder opens it. Automatic runs from Auto-Organize are marked automatic. Select a run and press Undo selected (or double-click it), then confirm.
Runs can be undone in any order: if a newer run moved a file again, Undo follows the file to where it is now and restores it to its original place.
How many runs are kept
- The newest 20 manual and the newest 20 automatic runs stay undoable β counted separately, so a busy schedule cannot push your manual runs out.
- Older runs are moved to
history/trimmed/(up to 200) and are no longer listed, but Undo still uses them to follow files they moved. - A run file that is damaged (no longer valid JSON) is not listed. Undo last moves it to
history/damaged/and undoes the newest readable run instead. - The log warns when a manual run drops out of the list.
Good to know
- Name conflicts β if a file with the same name has appeared in the original place, the restored file gets a
_1,_2β¦ suffix. - Files that cannot be restored (e.g. open in another program) stay in the history entry. Fix the cause and undo the same run again.
- Missing files β a file you deleted or moved yourself after the run is skipped and named in the log.
- Empty folders β category folders created by the run are removed again if they are empty after the undo.
- Crash-safe β the history is written while files are being moved, so even a crash or power cut leaves an undo record for everything moved so far.
- Auto-organize β after undoing a run in the folder that Auto-organize watches, you are asked whether to pause it, so it does not sort the files again.
- Clock-independent β runs are numbered; a wrong or jumping system clock (e.g. dual boot) cannot change their order.
Runs are stored in the history/ folder β see Data and Settings.
