Auto-Organize
Auto-organize scans and organises the selected folder on a fixed interval β without confirmation dialogs.
Turning it on
Sidebar β Auto-organize β Run on a schedule, and set Every β¦ minutes (1β1440; the β/+ buttons step by 15). The card below shows the state, e.g. Active, runs every 60 min.
- It only runs while Simple Organizer is open. It is not a background service.
- The first run happens one interval after you turn it on (or start the app).
- It uses the current scan options and, if enabled, staging mode. Files you set to Don't move in the Preview stay where they are β also after a restart β until you pick another folder.
When a run waits or is skipped
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| Another task is running or a dialog is open | The run waits and starts as soon as everything is free |
| The computer was asleep | Missed runs are skipped, not repeated one after the other |
| The folder cannot be found (drive unplugged, network disconnected β also when the app starts) | The card shows Paused: the folder was not found, a notification appears once; it continues when the folder is back. The folder is never swapped for another one. |
The folder is an unusual folder (drive root, home folder, C:\Users, system folder, Git repository) that you have not confirmed yet |
The card shows Paused: this folder needs one manual scan and confirmation first; scan it once by hand and confirm β the answer is remembered |
Undo
Automatic runs appear in Historyβ¦ marked as automatic and can be undone like any other run. They have their own limit of 20, so they never push your manual runs out of the history β see Undo and History. After an undo in the folder that Auto-organize watches, Simple Organizer offers to pause it β otherwise the next run would sort the restored files again.
Tips
- Combine with Rules for things like "PDFs older than a year β Archive" (a rule with the two conditions
extension pdfandolder_than_days 365). - If you want to check automatic results before they are final, turn on Staging Mode.
