Forensic boot media is for accessing the data so that you can bypass disk protection for imaging. A lot of forensic forms have external individuals with boot media and a laptop. The alternative is network imaging which is essentially imaging which uses scripting to transfer content. Kali, Parrot, WINFE are examples of forensic boot medias. They can take a physical image of the disk. Will contain a write blocker. you use it for tricky devices which can't be taken offline.
