If you are adding a new device to the SRL on a permanent or semi-permanent basis, you will likely want to assign a static IP address to the device. This can be done in the router options.
- Ensure the new device is connected to the right WiFi network (
SRCL). - Open up
Chromeand in the favorites you should seeNETGEAR Router. Click on it.
- You may get a warning that the connection is not private. If so, click on
Advancedand thenProceed to www.routerlogin.net.
- From the main page, navigate to the
ADVANCEDtab:
- Expand the
Setupmenu option, and then selectLAN Setup:
- Scroll down until you see the
Addoption. Click on it.
- You will now see a menu for Address Reservation. The Address Reservation Table should should you any device currently connected to the network which does NOT have a static IP address. For any new devices, they should show up here.
-
You can now either manually enter a static IP to use, or simply select the device you want to add (and use the currently assigned dynamic IP as the static IP). If you are manually entering the information, then you simply enter a new IP address, then the MAC address of the device you are adding, and then a name (optional). Then, click on the
Addbutton. -
This will bring you back to the
LAN Setuppage, where you can now click on theApplybutton to save the new device.
- You may need to restart the device for the change to be reflected, but you should now be able to ping you device at the new address using the
pingcommand in the Windows terminal:
