PhaseSpace Calibration Procedure - Carleton-SRCL/SPOT GitHub Wiki

Calibration

  1. Collect calibration wand from under the table & plug BLUE battery pack into it
  2. Launch MasterClient
  3. Click Tools -> Calibration -> Capture
  4. Move wand through the measurement volume for ~60 s
  5. Deselect capture. Choose "Exhaustive" then click Calibrate.
  6. If any errors, click Clear and then repeat from Step 3.
  7. If successful, click "Save".

Align the system next

Alignment

  1. After calibrating, click Align. Or, if starting from scratch, click Tools -> Alignment
  2. Click Auto Snapshot
  3. Gently touch the end of the wand, with its handle down, to the granite table at reference frame origin (far left corner of the table). Hold the wand still and "Auto snapshot" feature should automatically capture the wand's position.
  4. Check that a snapshot has been captured.
  5. Repeat the process at the +X edge of the table (near left corner)
  6. Repeat the process at the +Y edge of the table (far right corner).
  7. Click save.
  8. IMPORTANT. Click Done. Then, re-enter the alignment window (Tools -> Alignment). For some reason, it is necessary to leave and re-enter this window. Add a +90 degree rotation to the X direction. Click Save. The reason is this: PhaseSpace treats the final alignment position as the +Z direction, but we want this to be the +Y direction. Rotating the coordinate system around the X axis by 90 degrees achieves this.
  9. Check that the calibration and alignment seem accurate: Using MasterClient, connect to the server. Observe the LED positions on the screen. If they jump around by more than +/- 0.0001 m, then the calibration could be improved. Also, ensure that the Z positions of all LEDs are 0.31 to 0.32 m (31-32 cm above the table).
