Assigning an IP Address to a New Device - Carleton-SRCL/SPOT GitHub Wiki

If you are adding a new device to the SRCL on a permanent of semi-permanent basis, you will likely want to assign a static IP address to the device. This can be done in the router options.

  1. Ensure the new device is connected to the right WiFi network (SRCL).
  2. Open up Chrome and in the favorites you should see NETGEAR Router. Click on it.

  1. You may get a warning that the connection is not private. If so, click on Advanced and then Proceed to www.routerlogin.net.

  1. You can now either manually enter a static IP to use, or simply select the device you want to add (and use the currently assigned dynamic IP as the static IP). If you are manually entering the information, then you simply enter a new IP address, then the MAC address of the device you are adding, and then a name (optional). Then, click on the Add button.

  2. This will bring you back to the LAN Setup page, where you can now click on the Apply button to save the new device.

  1. You may need to restart the device for the change to be reflected, but you should now be able to ping you device at the new address using the ping command in the Windows terminal:
