Skybreakers - Capaloptocus/wordsofradiancemod GitHub Wiki

Skybreakers bond with Highspren, and have access to the surges of gravitation and division, though their spren do not allow them to use division until they reach the Third Ideal, and become full Skybreakers. The Highspren are the only spren who take the oaths as well as their knights, and appear as small tears in reality, with a starry blackness beyond. They are associated with the Herald Nalan, Herald of Justice, the smokestone polestone, and the colour grey.

The Skybreakers believe that people cannot be trusted to know what is right at all times, as their idea of what's right changes with their mood and their surroundings. As such, the Skybreakers dedicate themselves to something external, unchanging, to decide what is right. At the third ideal, a Skybreaker chooses a moral guideline and dedicates themselves to it - many choose the law, swearing to obey the laws of whatever land they find themselves in. Others choose people, those they believe know what is right better than most.

As with other orders, a Skybreaker of the Second Ideal or lower will be considered to have broken their oaths if they kill a villager or (insert other conditions here). However, at the Third Ideal, a Skybreaker chooses a law to uphold. From then on, they break their oaths only if they violate the law they swear to at the third ideal (i.e. unless you choose the Law of Occupation, you may kill villagers as you wish). Some of these laws are harder to keep than others. Such is the way of things.

The Second Ideal of the Skybreakers

I swear to seek justice, to let it guide me.

A Skybreaker of the Second Ideal gains access to the surge of Gravitation. Division is considered too dangerous by the Skybreakers and the Highspren, and so is not yet granted. Upon swearing this ideal, a Highspren is summoned, bonded to the player.

The Third Ideal of the Skybreakers

I swear to

At this ideal, also called the Ideal of Dedication, a Skybreaker chooses a moral guide to follow. In this mod, upon typing this in the chat, a GUI will open, with several options for the law to follow. They are as follows:

  • Law of the Land: Swear not to kill any other players, or their pets or other tamed creatures.
  • Law of Conquest: Swear not to kill any endermen, endermites, or the Ender Dragon.
  • Law of Occupation: Swear not to kill any villagers or golems.
  • Laws Beyond Death: Swear not to kill any undead.

After swearing this ideal, a Skybreaker gains the ability to manifest their Highspren as a Shardblade! This Blade can be summoned even if you are holding something (you'll drop it!), or by attacking the air with an empty hand, as your spren can anticipate when they are needed! Further, a full Skybreaker (a Skybreaker of the Third Ideal or higher) is able to use division.

The Fourth Ideal of the Skybreakers

I swear to

Before swearing this ideal, also called the Ideal of Crusade, a Skybreaker must have hired local law enforcement (create an iron golem). I intend to revise this to be tailored to the third ideal sworn, but I haven't yet.

For their fourth ideal, a skybreaker must choose a crusade of righteous cause. By typing the above statement in the chat, a GUI will appear, and the Skybreaker may choose their crusade. They are as follows:

  • Kill a Tyrant: Defeat the Ender Dragon
  • Destroy a Monstrosity: Defeat the Wither (annoyingly, there is only an advancement for summoning the Wither, so you know... kill it when you do)
  • Defend Innocents: Win a Raid
  • Restore Order: Respawn the Ender Dragon
  • Hunt: Kill Every Hostile Mob

Note: It is possible to choose a crusade that conflicts with your dedication. If this happens, you will not progress beyond the third ideal.

Upon completing their Crusade, a Skybreaker of the Fourth Ideal is able to summon Shardplate! Do this by pressing the Summon Plate Key (` by default). Skybreaker Plate is made of gravitationspren. This Plate can be summoned or dismissed at will.

The Fifth Ideal of the Skybreakers

I AM THE LAW!

A Skybreaker of the Fifth Ideal becomes the embodiment of the law. In the mod, a Skybreaker of the Fifth Ideal can no longer break their oaths unless they choose to (see Oathbreaking). This means you may violate the terms of the law chosen as part of the third ideal, as you have the discretion to decide what the law requires of you.
