Introduction

Interface components can be grouped together so that they function as a unit. This is especially useful when you want to hide or show some interface components based on actions taken by students in your tutor. You can create a group of components in two ways: by putting components in a Grouping Container, or by creating a list of components to be grouped. Using a Grouping Container to create a physical group makes sense when the components are near each other. When they are not near each other (or anytime you prefer not to use a container), you can use the Grouping List dialog to define a logical group.

Define a Grouping List

To add components to a Grouping List,

  1. Click to select all of the components you want to add to the group.
  2. Then click on Grouping List in the Component palette. This will open a dialog listing all of the components that were selected.
  3. Enter a name for the group, e.g., "group2" in the Group ID field.
  4. Click the Save Group button.

Edit a Grouping List

A Grouping List has no visual representation in your tutor interface, but you can see and modify your groups from the View menu.

To view, edit, or delete a group:

  1. Click on Groups in the View menu. Names of defined groups are displayed in a submenu.
  2. Move the mouse over the group name ("group2") in the submenu that you want to view. The background of the interface components in the group turns green as shown below.
  3. Click the group name in the submenu to open the Edit Group dialog.

From the Edit Group dialog you can delete components from the group, add other components to the group, or delete the entire group.

Note

Deleting a component from the group or deleting a Grouping List does not delete any of the components in the group.
