Short description

The specific nature of the data record, e.g. specimen, human observation, fossil.

Description

What the record is of, e.g. this is a record of a specimen or a human observation of an organism in the wild, or some other occurrence. This ranges from human observation, through machine observation, to preserved specimens and DNA analysis. The values used by the ALA include those identified in Darwin Core (http://rs.tdwg.org/dwc/terms/basisOfRecord).

Previously, the ALA included some none standard terms in this field. EnvironmentalDNA occurrence records and GenomicDNA occurrence records are now identified in the Data Resource metadata, see this article for searching and filtering for these types of records: https://support.ala.org.au/support/solutions/articles/6000249686-how-do-i-search-and-filter-for-environmental-dna-edna-records-
