Common Noun

• Represents one or all of the members of a class
• Contrast with a proper noun.

Rules

• Can be preceded by the definite article
• Typically, does not begin with a capital letter unless it appears at the start of a sentence.

Further classification

• Count nouns and mass nouns.
• Abstract nouns and concrete nouns.
