Behavior & AI

Core Behavior

  • Aggression Type: Passive until spotted, large detection range, then will continue to try and get a shot at the player, keeping them at bay. At lower health, will become much more aggressive.

  • Attack Pattern: Keeps her distance, throwing projectiles at the player. Uses her secondary barrier ability to block the player to push the player away if they get too close without dealing damage/stun.

  • Behavior:

    • Holding hands to the side in idle
    • Solitary
    • Only show up by themselves in rooms, max 2 to a room
    • Wants to stay off in corner on their own
    • Not wanting to interact with others
    • large detection area
    • Roots in the environment lead to the Dryad
    • Always locked after aggro
    • Keeps their distance at all possible when on normal heath
    • Approaches when on low health, less time to dodge the projectiles
      • wall goes behind player, not trying to block trying to trap
    • When at low health
    • Gets desperate, "goes off the deep end"
  • Movement design:

    • Quick, long and exaggerated strides
    • moves in big bounds
    • triple jump esc movement first two jumps part
  • Jump: Same height as the witches jump

Movement Classification

  • Ground
  • Speed: Medium
  • Pathfinding: Will move around obstacles to get a clear shot at the player. Should remain in the open so the player can see where they are attacking from

Abilities & Attacks

[Decayed Growth]

  • Type: Ranged
  • Description: The Dryad will hurl a dart of purple energy at the player in a direct line (palms up, fingers down, like pushing water gently).
  • destroyed on contact with the environment or a target.
  • The dart travels very quickly across the screen
  • When fired by an enemy, telegraph in advance. Will lock to a target location 10-30 frames before firing, so the player has a chance to move out of the way
  • When fired by the player, the attack auto-aims the same way the melee attack system does. Meant to interpret the player's intent rather than test their aim

Proposed Redesign

[Spore Blast]

  • Type: Close range reset tool
  • Description: The Dryad quickly summons a cloud of spores in front of herself. Targets hit by this attack will be launched across the room
    • "Get off me" tool meant to disrupt enemies rushing the dryad down. See Guile's Flash Kick from Street Fighter.
    • Punishable on whiff
    • Low or no damage
    • Alternate take: could push spores out in a radius around her, hitting enemies on all sides of her.

### [Nature's Blockade] - Type: Terrain creation - Description: The Dryad will bend to one knee and place her hands on the ground before rising to her feet, and raising her hands with her. When doing this, a wall of roots will be raised from the ground at a location within range (max distance = 3 times height of the Dryad). The wall is very long across, about 2 times the Dryad's height, blocking line of sight and lasting 20 seconds. The wall will deal damage upon spawning, and also has hit points to be destroyed (About 2 times the Dryad's health pool to start). ~~ ~~ - Groot's wall from Marvel Rivals is an inspiration for this ability

Death Behavior

  • Death Effect: Falls to the ground and roots pile over top and the roots pull it back into the earth
  • Item Drop Chance:

Camera Changes

  • When the player controls the Dryad, lower the camera perspective to help the player see enemies further away
