Gantry Back Board Installation

STEP Y-01

STEP Y-01: The gantry backboard with holes pre-drilled for installing the control board and power supply.

STEP Y-02: This is X and Z assembly, from the backside.

STEP Y-03: Control board for stepper motors and spindle.

STEP Y-09: Correct backboard orientation, all connectors are close to X and Z stepper motors for easy connection.

STEP Y-10: Connect the M3x20 screw and standoff to the control board.

STEP Y-11: Connect them to the backboard.

STEP Y-12: On another side, use a washer and nut.

STEP Y-13: Put all of them on, leave them loose but holding the board in position.

STEP Y-14: Now align them properly and tightening them up.

STEP Y-16: Prepare the 24V DC power supply

STEP Y-17: Use a voltage selection switch to match up to your AC power used.

STEP Y-18: We are using 115V Power in the USA, use a screwdriver to switch it.

STEP Y-21: This is how the power supply will be installed onto the backboard.

STEP Y-22: Match four installation holes between the backboard and power supply.

STEP Y-26: Use the screw to connect the board to the power supply.

STEP Y-30: Now we can install the assembled backboard onto the machine gantry. Use for Philip Round Head M4x8 screw and washers.

STEP Y-32: To make the job easier, install the upper right corner first. From the backside of the gantry.

STEP Y-33: Connect them but don't make it tight yet.

STEP Y-41: All four screws are now tight and the board is also aligned on the back of the machine gantry.

Wiring

STEP Y-43: Use a stripping tool to expose the wire.

STEP Y-44: Connect to L and N terminals on the power supply.

STEP Y-45: Be careful, not to let the wire be exposed outside of the connector.

Gantry Installation

STEP Y-78: Notice the oval shape on the gantry hole, it is for fine-tuning the alignment for squareness of the machine.

STEP Y-79: After putting the gantry on, now we can connect the wire for & axis (on the base).

Spindle Installation

STEP Y-84: This aluminum bracket and screw are for spindle installation.

STEP Y-85: Connect the bracket to the Z-axis moving block with the M6x70 screw.

STEP Y-86: Leave the screws loose for now for final alignment.

STEP Y-87: Use 5mm hex key.

STEP Y-87-0: Keep them loose.

STEP Y-88: On right-hand side, install screws.

STEP Y-88-0: Keep them loose.

STEP Y-89: Carefully put the spindle motor into the bracket, make sure not to drop it while screws are loose.

STEP Y-90: One handhold the motor, use the other hand to tighten the screw. Before fully tightened, adjust the alignment, you can use the Z-axis moving block as a reference.

STEP Y-91: When properly aligned, tighten up all four screws.

STEP Y-92: Spindle power wire.

STEP Y-93: Strip the wire, and twist them individually.

STEP Y-94: Connect one end to the control board spindle terminals, red to + and black to -.

STEP Y-94-0: Another end will be connected to the spindle motor.

STEP Y-95: The quick connector on the spindle.

STEP Y-96

STEP Y-96: Make sure the color-matched on both sides.

STEP Y-97

STEP Y-97: Use a zip tie to secure the spindle and Z-axis wires.
Make sure to leave enough wire for Z-axis movement.

STEP Y-98

STEP Y-98: The switch on the control board is for turning spindle power on and off, but spindle speed will be controlled through the grbl command, when start, the speed is set to 0 rpm.

Computer Connection

STEP Y-99: Use this USB cable to connect between the control board and the computer.

STEP Y-100: Connect the USB cable to the control board.
