Welcome to Age of Exile!

This guide should explain most important newbie questions you might have.

First of all, all mobs have levels now. Their level is dictated by distance from spawn usually.

You don't want to fight high level mobs, as they are much stronger than you and you won't be able to use their loot for a while anyway. Not to mention you won't get much experience fighting outside your level range (5 levels -/+).

So your plan should be to stay near spawn until you level up a bit. Or you could keep living in a level 1 area and just go to other dimensions to farm mobs. Your choice.

Now for the core mechanics you NEED to know to have any chance succeding.

Salvaging:

Salvage Station allows you to scrap any gear you don't want, jewels, skill gems, currencies etc. into useful crafting materials. You WILL use these materials to repair your gear and craft new ones.

Repairing:

After a while you'll get good gear that you want to save. To repair it, craft the Repair Station. Fill it with Essences you get from salvaging to fuel it.

Crafting:

You have some essences from salvaging and gathered the materials, what now?

You choose which gear you want to craft:

Ores for crafting weapons or plate armor:

Cloth for crafting cloth armor (mage build):

Leather for crafting leather armor (ranger build):

Here's how you craft a wand:

For the remaining recipes I suggest using REI

Age of Exile's mod id is "mmorpg", so just search @mmorpg in REI and you'll get all the recipes. (Yes I know the id doesn't make any sense)

Spell Casting:

1. Open main menu [H], select Spells menu.

2. Put a skill gem in there

3. Use keybinds to cast spells! Press shift for 2nd hotbar.

4. Cast it by using the appropriate weapon (must have age of exile stats). And done!
