Famine

The Famine enchantment is an enchantment that is applicable to swords. Upon striking a non player entity, that entity is given a Weakness effect for 15 seconds. If the struck entity is instead a player, that struck player will have their food stats reduced. The amount of the deduction depends on the enchantment level of Famine.

Enchantment Level Food Stats Deduction (Player Victims Only) Weakness Level (Non-Player Victims Only)
1 1.25 (~) 1
2 2.5 (~) 1
3 3.75 (~) 2
4 5 () 2
5 6.25 (~) 2

This food stats deduction only occurs when the player attacks with a fully charged swing, giving the sweep attack on vanilla swords. Food stats deduction is done by adding exhaustion to the struck player. For example, assuming no other factors are in place that lowers exhaustion received, Famine II deducts 2.5 food stats. What it does is add enough exhaustion to lower the player's hunger by 2 () (which by default would be 8 exhaustion) and then add enough exhaustion that would get the player halfway to losing another point of hunger (which would be 2 exhaustion, thus Famine II gives 10 exhaustion on hit). Also, the Fasting enchantment and the Iron Stomach potion effect can reduce the effect of this enchantment since they reduce exhaustion received. Conversely, the Soft Stomach effect can increase the amount of hunger lost from this enchantment. If a sword is cheated to have a higher level Famine enchantment than the expected maximum, the food stats deduction scales by level, but the Weakness level is capped at 2.
