Temple Battles - xopherdeep/do-it-for-the-xp GitHub Wiki
Temple Battles represent structured, planned engagements with beasts (tasks) in dedicated environments. Unlike random encounters, temple battles are deliberately sought out and typically involve higher-difficulty challenges that require preparation and strategy.
The primary battle type found throughout temples:
- Each room contains a specific beast (task)
- Room doors lock behind you until battle is complete
- Beast difficulty aligns with temple floor level
- Corresponds to medium-sized tasks requiring focused attention
Found at key junctures within the temple:
- Guards progress to next floor/area
- Represents significant milestone tasks
- Higher difficulty than standard room encounters
- Often requires specific strategies or abilities
- Offers enhanced rewards upon defeat
The ultimate challenge at a temple's final chamber:
- Represents the most challenging task in that category
- Highest difficulty level (55-144 on Fibonacci scale)
- Multi-phase battles with complex mechanics
- Requires thorough preparation and strategic approach
- Offers legendary rewards upon completion

Unlike random encounters, temple battles allow for preparation:
- Review beast information before entering rooms
- Choose optimal path through the temple
- Equip appropriate items and gear
- Set up ability loadout based on expected challenges
- Ensure sufficient HP/MP reserves
- Rest areas between certain rooms
- Item chests containing useful battle supplies
- Save points to record progress
- Information stands with hints about upcoming beasts
- Once a room is entered, escape is not possible until battle concludes
- Creates commitment to completing the task at hand
- Temple-specific conditions affect battle parameters
- Examples: Sand Temple increases MP costs, World-Ice Temple causes periodic HP damage
- Temple beasts often have unique attack patterns not seen in random encounters
- Mini-bosses and guardians have signature moves requiring specific counters
Guardian battles often progress through phases:
- Initial Phase: Standard battle mechanics (Fibonacci 13-21)
- Transition: Beast changes form or behavior
- Intensified Phase: New attacks or defense mechanisms (Fibonacci 34-55)
- Final Phase: Ultimate challenge requiring full focus (Fibonacci 89+)
- XP: Fibonacci value × 100 (500-2,100 XP for standard rooms)
- GP: Fibonacci value × 10 (50-210 GP)
- AP: Fibonacci value (5-21 AP)
- Specialized items relevant to the temple theme
- Room completion markers (for tracking progress)
- Enhanced point rewards (2x standard room)
- Special gear or consumable items
- Key items required for temple progression
- Premium point rewards (3-5x standard room)
- Unique accessories or equipment
- Temple completion badge
- Special abilities only available through guardian defeat
- Temple artifact (permanent stat boost or special effect)
