Notes
Welcome
Jörg welcomed the participants and expressed his concern about the low attendance by WDCs.
Jörg announced that Martin Schultz resigned from ET-ACDM. John announced he will retire soon, still he could remain in the group. Jörg and John to have a future discussion about John staying in the group or finding a replacement. Sergi introduced himself as an interim representative of the Secretariat replacing Stoyka.
minutes of previous meeting (all, 5')
Adoption ofNotes from Jörg were adopted as the last meeting minutes.
News from WMO and SSC (Sergi, jkl, 20')
Reorganisation of GAW Secretariat
Oksana will no longer be the Head of GAW; Jürg Luterbacher new acting Head of GAW; Sergi Moreno interim focal point for ET-ACDM.
The future role and place of ET-ACDM was also discussed: the restructuring of WMO left only 2 Commissions and the Research Board, which is not operational. However, ET-ACDM is operational, it also interacts with the final user, so it has links with the Infrastructure and Services Commissions.
Joint Study Group on Greenhouse Gas Monitoring
The group has had its ToR endorsed. Several members from GAW have attended the first 2 meetings. The group has started to define the desired outputs from the initiative. The meetings take place frequently to have a skeleton of the architecture ready to be discussed by the Infrastructure and Services Commissions in October and then by the EC-76 in February.
GAW IP 2024-2027
The current GAW IP 2016-2023 needs to be re-newed. There is a need for inputs in the new GAW IP, a disinterest from the programme members could be interpreted as GAW is not needed. Jörg urged members to contribute their insight. Action: Complete questionnaire/survey sent out on 18 August and again on 26 August at the very latest by end of September.
In person meeting in November
Judd asked for information on accommodation and logistics. Alex Vermeulen and Lund University would be the hosts. The meeting agenda was reviewed, members were encouraged to attend in person. Limited financial support from WMO, Sergi asked for the participants requiring financial support to contact him until the 12th of September. A list of who is coming in person or on Teams required. The topics planned to be discussed during the meeting were interesting, however depending on the final attendance some of them would not be discussed. The discussion would help to shape something more tangible to input in the IP. Action: Sergi to contact Alex about practicalities; also, to set up a Doodle for sign up. Action: Everyone to please sign up ASAP for the meeting.
News from WDCs, other archives
- Gao pointed that data from different WDC requires different ways of accessing. That is a tedious process, standardisation should be a common goal.
- Jeannette announced the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding with WMO, meaning a formal relation has been established.
- John was preparing a presentation about EUBREWNET and needed to meet with Alberto.
- Jörg updated about OSCAR and GAWSIS life-cycle project, the collection of requirements has started, for example from the Expert Team on WIGOS Tools. Members have received a questionnaire enquiring if GAWSIS is needed or could be fully integrated into OSCAR/Surface. Changes in OSCAR/Surface to simplify processes, for example adding data representations. A new standard for WIGOS metadata representation is being developed and this work will be presented at TECO 2022 in Paris. UML model experts from the group were welcomed to collaborate.
AOB
There was a discussion about members from WDC been more focused in their host institutions interests other than the ones of the group, so the group needs to be balanced by independent members as Judd or Gao for example.
