1. Approval of last minutes

2. GAW updates from Secretariat
EC-78 decisions:
-Creation of the Regional Specialized Meteorological Centers for Vegetation, Fire and Smoke Pollution Forecast.
-Approval of the G3W Implementation Plan. Three new Task Teams planned under INFCOM: on G3W networks, G3W data and G3W modelling.
-WMO Science and Innovation Director vacancy.
-WMO Scientific Advisory Panel discussed about emerging topics: AI and big data.
-LCS Report released.
-Currently the Secretariat is preparing a proposal for a EU funded project for data harmonisation with the participation of WMO (GAW, G3W), GCOS and GEO. Possible submission at late Q4/2024.
3. GAWTEC discussion about the needs for training within your domains, evaluate the current training format and suggest ideas for improvement.
General feedback is positive, however it is difficult to reach the place and online presentations are also a good alternative.
Training in Asia has also room for improvement.
Possible contribution from ET-ACDM on specific data centres.
Discussion about selection of participants in GAWTEC, sometimes the participants are not the ones operating instruments or dealing with data management.
Suggestion to prepare a questionnaire about ideas for GAWTEC.
4. GEOMS (As an example of interoperability for WDC?)
Presentation from Ann Mari Fjaeraa.
Q/A:
Comment on the fact that metadata and data are in the same file, suggestion to improve the standard separating metadata files to be considered for future adoption at a broader scale.
Pros of having metadata and data in separate files: metadata using use of a unique persistent identifier. Possibility of updating metadata and/or data independently.
Cons of having metadata and data in separate files: Concerns about losing metadata information if it's not in the data file. Issues reading metadata (time zones). DOI can be linked to GEOMS.
ASCII encoding could be an advantage when non typical characters are included.
Concerns about one instrument limit in GEOMS, issues when using many instruments in a campaign and when data are interconnected.
Question about GEOMS encompassing WIGOS metadata: GEOMS is developing new names or variable attributes for the relevant information that should not be lost when you are referring to.
Concerns raised about WIGOS metadata model evolution, a new version of WIGOS metadata would be benefitial.
Action: Ann Mari to send new ozonesonde template for review.

5. WIS 2.0 topic hierarchy
https://github.com/wmo-im/et-acdm/issues/20
Topics approved through the WMO fast-track procedure. Now data to be exchanged in WIS 2.0 needs to be defined: currently data is sent to the WDC. WIS 2.0 nodes need to receive the metadata of the data sets to be shared via WIS 2.0, then they can send notifications with the metadata and the data location.
