2. GAW updates from Secretariat

  • WMO Secretariat is facing budget reductions: 35% this year.
  • GAW Secretariat is sourcing resources. Two projects will offer some support:

-iClimateAction funded by EU started in March 2025: https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101216980. Request for better alignment of the activities from WMO, GEO and GCOS. Focused on ECVs:

        - is there a home for each of the ECVs and how the information is made available?

        - enhancing data exploitation

iClimate Action project intends to support GCOS IP, there is a plan to meet in UK at the beginning of 2026 with the participation of members from the Expert Teams.

-CAMS25, in preparation, funded by Copernicus, in collaboration with Barcelona Supercomputer Center. Two main outputs expected: update of GAWSIS with real status of the GAW network and provision of NRT data by some selected stations. Part of the funds can be allocated for ET-ACDM in person meetings, allowing discussion with WDC.

Action: to block dates for a possible ET-ACDM in person meeting: 5-7 November 2025

3. Update about the implementation of changes in ozone cross-section

  • Based on scientific publications WOUDC has decided to implement Dobson cross section corrections. Two applications: one time application for the archived data and one on-going application for any incoming data. test are performed on the beta website and will cut over its operations by 31 May.

  • A status table showing which stations are a) doing corrections, b) not doing corrections or c) planning to do corrections will be published in the website.

  • SAG will be consulted before moving to operations. Still no plans for Brewer data.

  • Changes must be reported in the metadata.

*About WOUDC website update: Tom sent a mail 18/03/2025 with the switchover information and here is the link to the beta website

Action: ET-ACDM to provide feedback on the new WOUDC website

3. Presentation about GAW-QC

Yuri's presentation

  • GAW-QC will support the GAW quality control. Examples: before submitting the data to the WDC or to spot instruments malfunction.

  • GAW-QC supports the work of operators in flagging data not replacing them.

  • Another disclaimer alerting anomalies in data not necessarily means wrong data.

  • Suggestion to include stations' wind data when available to support to explain time series behavior.

  • Suggestion to include GAW-QC as part of WDC routine data ingestion for data flagging.

  • Comment from Alex (ICOS): You can get all the ICOS GHG data NRT (daily updated) with all metadata you need also machine 2 machine, though that passed already some automatic QC like this spike detection and has a set of QC tools at ICOS ATC (like here for JFJ: https://www.icos-atc.lsce.ipsl.fr/panelboard/JFJ/)

5. AOB, topics for the next meeting

Next meeting 28 May
