First Usage - wladwnt/CAN-Gateway GitHub Wiki

If you power on the CAN-Gateway in the initial state, it generates a WiFi access point with the name “cangateway”. You have to connect PC/notebook/tablet to this access point to configure the CAN-Gateway. The password is 000999555. In details, the following steps are required:

  1. Connect CAN-Gateway via USB to your notebook/PC/tablet to power it up (you also can use an USB power adapter)
  2. Connect your notebook/PC/tablet to WiFi access point called "cangateway". The password is 000999555
  3. Open your Web browser and go to http://192.168.1.1 This web page is not somewhere in the internet but on your CAN-Gateway directly. At first you can choose between German and English interface language. With SW version below 29.001 http://192.168.1.1 does not work in some cases, then http://192.168.4.1 can be used instead.
  4. Click on „Settings” and read carefully Terms and Conditions. If you agree please click on „I agree to these terms and conditions.”:
  5. On the next page click on „Download and show present CAN-Gateway settings“. Firstly you can enter your WiFi network name and password. All other settings you can leave as it is. Then click on „Save settings (send them to CAN-Gateway) & restart“. Now you can disconnect your PC/notebook/tablet from cangateway network and connect it back to your home WiFi access point. Attention: as soon as you change network name from “cangateway” to something different, the cangateway considers it as an existing WiFi network and does not initiates access point any more.
  6. After restart the CAN-Gateway will try to connect to your home WiFi network. Your WiFi router must support 2,4 GHz frequency band, 802.11b/g/n standard, WEP/WPA-TKIP/WPA2-CCMP authentication as well as DHCP protocol (all that is typical for modern routers). Be sure that it is also configured to accept new WiFi clients (not to block unknown MAC addresses etc.). Now CAN-Gateway must be connected to your home WiFi network.
  7. As next you have to find out what IP address the CAN-GAteway has recieved from your WiFi router. The easiest way is to check it the WEB interface of your router. You also can just try http://cangateway.local (on MacOS or Linux) or http://cangateway in your Web browser. On Windows you also can check under “Network” section if "CAN Gateway" is listed there. With the right mouse click on the “CAN Gateway” you will get to "properties" and there you can read the IP address of the CAN Gateway.
  8. Now you can access the WEB interface of the CAN-Gateway via this IP address.
  9. As next you can unplug the CAN-Gateway from USB power source and connect it to your Hoval devices.
