Team Roles - wccarobotics/ftc-decode GitHub Wiki

There's a lot of different things for team members to do in FTC! We'll probably want several team members for each role, and each team member should have several roles.

  • Design and Build - Build the starter bot. Then design and build improvements to it. This should involve prototyping and iteration to test out mechanisms.
    • CAD - Computer Aided Design. Basically using computer programs to design a 3D model of the robot or a mechanism.
  • Wiring - Wiring all the different electrical components of the robot together. It is important that this is done well! We don't want our robot to suddenly stop working when we're playing a match.
  • Programming - Writing computer code that runs on the robot. This is both for the autonomous portion of the match, as well as determining how the driver inputs will control the robot during the match.
  • Drive team - These will be the people who drive the robot during the match.
  • Scouting - This will involve scouting other teams during the competition, generally by watching their matches and recording information. This will be important to determine our game strategy when we play against them, as well as knowing which teams we'd like to be allied with in the playoffs.
  • Outreach - This will involve things like creating social media posts and videos to promote our team and share what we're doing, raising funds from donors, and probably other activities.
  • Documentation - We can create a portfolio to share with the judges at the competition. This is required for some awards and likely helpful for all of them. Generally, this should document our engineering process throughout the year (see the awards section in the competition manual for more details about what should be included). So we'll need to be documenting our progress and what we do throughout the year.
  • Project Management / Team Captain - With so many different things to do, it will be good to have someone who keeps track of what needs to be done, who's doing what, what the progress is, etc.
