Development Environment Systems For WB8TYW

Servers

Main server

An Ubuntu 20.04 system that is setup as a file server for both NFS and Samba along with its other duties as an eventual replacement for the Microsoft Windows Media Center.

This server is setup as a VNC server.

The server is also designed to host docker containers and VMs.

The disks on this server are mirrored.

In the future, some of the development directories will be served by a free DropBox account. This will provide both off-site backups and it allows development from a laptop that has is not currently connected to the home network.

For every DropBox referral that a free user makes that is actually used, the user gets more free space. I can be contacted at the obvious gmail e-mail account for referrals.

As a side project to this, I am transitioning to having the as much of the configuration of my systems controlled by Ansible.

Client systems

Laptop 1

A Laptop running Anti-X Linux that was given to me because the former owner considered it obsolete. I maxed out the memory on it to 4GB. Anti-X Linux was used as it was the only Linux that I could find that would properly run this particular model in a dual monitor configuration.

This is planned to be the main development station.

Desktop 1

A Desktop with Windows 8.1 64 bit. This system's main job is being a Microsoft Media Center server for the house, so it is stuck on Windows 8.1.

Laptop 2

A Laptop running Windows 7 64 bit. This system can not be upgraded to Windows 10, as the vendor put some graphics hardware that needs special drivers, and then stopped providing updates to it. Obviously a way to make sure people know not to buy a replacement from them.

Raspberry Pi 3

A Raspberry Pi 3 that I picked up from that last Dayton Hamvention.

This client is setup as a VNC server.

Intel Compute Stick

This is a physically tiny computer that is running Windows 10 32 bit.

This client is setup as a VNC server.

Future VMs

I may be setting up VMs and docker containers for some tests.

Other Stuff

FTDI FT232 serial to Usb adapter

This seems to be the best working adapter that I have, and tends to be the most pricey.

Prolific PL2303 serial to USB adapter

I originally used this adapter, but discovered that when the D-rats program was not running on the Window 8.1 system, it was causing the radio to periodically transmit.

HL-340 USB serial adapter

These are QinHeng Electronics HL-340 USB Serial adapter.

The Icom 91AD configuration program will not communicate with it on Windows.
