Scribe list

The person at the top of the list will scribe for the next teleconference. If top person is not able to scribe, the second will scribe and name #1 remains at the top for next time. Once you have scribed, move your name to the bottom of the list.

Note: Task Force facilitators and AG WG Chair (liaison) and those who made have requested to not scribe are exempt from scribing.

Instructions

Tips for Scribing

When it's your turn to scribe at a meeting:

  • Scribe the gist of what is being said, not word-for-word.
  • Take down who is speaking by including their IRC nickname. Example: suzieq: Scribing is easy.
  • Write down if there's general agreement within the group. Example: General agreement that scribing is easy.

IRC Commands for Scribing

Here's some common scribe commands for you to use.

Command Usage
scribe+ your-irc-nickname Add yourself as a meeting scribe.
zakim, next item Opens the next agenda item.
zakim, take up item 3 Opens third agenda item.
zakim, time speakers at 2 minutes
Zakim, stop timing
Starts a timer warnings for person currently in queue.
Stops the timer warnings.
TOPIC: Some new topic Creates a new linkable topic in the minutes. Used for topics introduced outside of the agenda items.
s/X/Y Substitutes text X with text Y. Used to make corrections. Example: s/teh/the replaces the most recent occurrence of teh with the.
ACTION: irc-nickname to Task to do - [due date] Creates an action item and assigns an action number for the tracker.
close action-number Closes the action with that number. Example: close action-2
RESOLUTION: Group consensus to be noted in the minutes. Creates a linkable decision to add to our Decisions page.

Ending a meeting

To end the meeting, use the following commands.

  1. rrsagent, draft minutes

    Note: Be sure this command completes correctly and RRSagent responds with the link to the minutes before dismissing zakim.

  2. zakim, bye

Then send the generated link of the minutes to the group public list: [email protected]
