Timelapse Viewer

The timelapse viewer allows you to "play back" a level being built up, which is useful for making marketing videos.

To use it, first open up the editor, press tab to open the primary window. Under the "World" tab, there is a "Timelapse" tree.

By default the timelapse mode is disabled. Before you enable it, you need to choose a region of the world to play back. If the world is small, you can choose the "All" button to include everything. But in general, you'll want to pick a specific structure to play back.

In this example, we are going to play back the construction of the town hall. Use the group select tool to choose the region, and click the "From Group Select" button:

Click "Enable" and now you can roll back construction of the building using the "Index" slider. Sometimes it takes a while for it to update, so you can see the "Current" value updating next to it.

Notice that the town hall has disappeared! When you click the "Play" button, the objects in the selected region will start animating as if they are being placed. You can increase the playback speed too, though that has a tendency to reduce the framerate and make animations jerkier.

Now we can try to make a good video, using the typical settings:

  • Increase mouse dampening
  • Increase friction
  • Lower speed multiplier
  • Turn of the HUD

To make it easier to play/pause the timelapse mode, you can set up a keyboard shortcut too.
