Installation - visubramaniam/vsp360-mcp GitHub Wiki

vsp360-mcp is a community MCP server for Hitachi VSP 360. It isn't an official Hitachi Vantara product.

This page helps you choose an install method and gives the short version of each. INSTALL.md has the full steps, including Windows, checksums, upgrading and uninstalling.

Before you start

  • A VSP 360 service account. Create one in VSP 360 and note its client ID and secret. Give it only the access you need: admin covers alerts, logs and system operations; for devices, add it to a group whose access policy covers the device types.
  • HTTPS access from the machine running the server to VSP 360.
  • The CA certificate, if VSP 360's certificate is signed by a private CA (for VSP360_CA_CERT).

Every method needs the same three settings: VSP360_URL, VSP360_CLIENT_ID and VSP360_CLIENT_SECRET.

Claude Desktop extension

  1. Download vsp360-mcp-<version>.mcpb from the latest release.
  2. Open it. Claude Desktop shows an install dialog.
  3. Fill in the VSP 360 URL, client ID and client secret. Optional settings cover direct toolsets, writes, the CA certificate, TLS verification, and the download and upload folders.

In Claude Desktop's settings, the extension appears as Hitachi VSP 360 (Community).

Claude Code plugin

The vsp360-community plugin packages the server with two skills: capacity and performance reports through Analytics, and a platform health check. Install it in Claude Code from the repository's marketplace:

/plugin install vsp360-community --marketplace visubramaniam/vsp360-mcp

Claude Code asks for the VSP 360 URL, client ID and secret; the secret goes to your system's secure credential store. When you install or update the plugin, Claude Code installs the server from the plugin's lockfile, with every package pinned and checked against an integrity hash, so it needs Node.js 20 or later with npm. It works in Claude Code and in Cowork sessions on your computer, but not in Claude chat, which doesn't run plugins' local servers. Use the extension there.

Once the plugin is listed in Anthropic's plugin directory, you'll also be able to add it from there.

The Claude Code Plugin page covers the plugin in full: settings, the skills, updating, troubleshooting and privacy.

npm

npm install -g vsp360-mcp

This installs the vsp360-mcp command. Or run it without installing, pinned to a version:

Versions from 0.1.17 are on the npm registry. Versions published by the Release workflow carry a signed provenance attestation; npm audit signatures verifies it.

Standalone archive

Download the archive for your system from the latest release: darwin-arm64, darwin-x64, linux-x64, linux-arm64, win-x64 or win-arm64. Each one bundles Node.js 24.

sudo tar -xzf vsp360-mcp-0.1.23-linux-x64.tar.gz -C /opt
sudo ln -sf /opt/vsp360-mcp-0.1.23-linux-x64/bin/vsp360-mcp /usr/local/bin/vsp360-mcp

On Windows, unzip it and run runtime\node.exe dist\index.js. The Linux archives need glibc 2.28 or later; on Alpine, use npm or the container.

Container image

docker pull ghcr.io/visubramaniam/vsp360-mcp:0.1.23

The same image is on Docker Hub as docker.io/subramaniamv/vsp360-mcp, for linux/amd64 and linux/arm64. MCP clients start it with docker run -i --rm. See README.docker.md for client configuration, mounts for downloads, uploads and certificates, and container troubleshooting.

Verify a download

Each release has a SHA256SUMS file. Download it next to the package and check it:

shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS --ignore-missing
