Crafting and repair - veerserif/GAMMA-manual GitHub Wiki

One of G.A.M.M.A.'s core features is its reliance on crafting systems introduced by Anomaly. The main method of progression involves players finding tools and repair parts, scrounging weapons and armor from dead enemies or stashes, then fixing them up to full working condition. Therefore, it is important for you to understand how these systems work in order to make any kind of progress in the game.

Tools

There are three major categories of crafting gear: toolkits, repair kits and cleaning kits. The game does not call them by these names, but just to keep things clear, I will.

Toolkits come in five kinds: Basic, Advanced, Expert, Gunsmithing and Drugmaking. Toolkits allow you to open up a portable workbench screen, enabling you to craft new items and also to replace parts inside weapons and armor. These cannot be crafted, and must be found in stashes.

Each tool type gates crafting of an entire category of recipes - Basic tools allows you to create, repair and modify simple weapons and gear, Advanced and Expert kits allow you to fix better and better weapons and armor. Gunsmithing kits allow you to create your own ammo, and Drugmaking lets you create medical items.

Weapon and armor kits come in several varieties, and differ by tier. These kits have a few uses: first, they can raise the condition of compatible weapons or armor with no minimum. Second, they can be used inside the workbench interface to replace parts inside weapons, helmets and suits. Each kit has a limited number of charges, and they are expensive both to make and to buy. More advanced weapon and armor kits can be bought as mechanic supply levels rise. Each time a kit is used to clean an item, one charge will be used. Using a kit to swap parts in a workbench does not consume charges. These kits can be found in stashes, bought from mechanics, or crafted by players.

There are four kinds of weapon kits: type A, B, C and D kits. Every gun uses one of these four kits. These weapon kits allow you to swap parts at a workbench, and repair parts inside a gun at any condition.

There are four kinds of armor kits: light, medium, heavy and exo. These kits are used both to repair helmets and suits, and for use in a workshop to replace parts inside helmets and suits. Since helmets and suits cannot be "missing" a part, their use is largely limited to repairing armor and allowing you to replace parts in a workbench. The light, medium and heavy kits can be crafted or bought. The exo repair kit must be crafted after finding its recipe, which is a 4% drop from high-ranking stalkers.

Gear repair kits can be used to repair heavily damaged equipment, and for guns, it also allows you to clean parts currently inside the guns. This is one of the few ways to clean a barrel that is part of a gun. These gear repair kits are also often used as crafting components for weapon and armor kits. All gear repair kits can themselves be crafted by players, found in stashes or bought from mechanics.

Gear repair kits for weapons all have a minimum condition of 10%. Different guns are compatible with different gun repair kits. For example, a rifle cleaning kit will not work on a shotgun.

Gear repair kits for armor have different minimum condition thresholds, but all armor gear repair kits work on any helmet or suit. For example, a basic sewing kit and a heavy sewing kit will both work on a Sunrise suit, but the basic sewing kit has a minimum threshold of 85% while the heavy sewing kit has a minimum threshold of 65%.

Weapon repair

Gun repair is fairly complex in G.A.M.M.A. Every gun is made up of three to five different parts, and separate from that, guns also have an overall condition. Part condition is meant to represent the quality of the parts in the gun, while overall gun condition is meant to represent how clean or well-maintained the gun is.

Guns under 85% total condition have a chance of causing damage to the parts inside every time you shoot them. This is configurable in the "Weapon Parts Overhaul" MCM menu, along with other settings such as weapon degradation in the rain.

Low-condition guns, as well as guns with low-condition parts inside them, are more prone to jamming. Low-condition barrels also reduce the gun's damage.

Repairing weapon condition

Weapon condition can be increased using the appropriate gun cleaning kits and gun oil items. Different items have different thresholds - for example, the Dvojka gun oil cannot repair guns that are below 50% condition. Different items will increase gun condition by different amounts. You may also select "supportive materials" - these provide a boost to the amount of condition restored. Many items can act as a supportive material for repairs, even if they cannot fix a gun on their own.
