🛞 Extra Wheels (Synchronized Wheels for Heavy Vehicles)
The ExtraWheel feature enables seamless synchronization of additional wheels with the vehicle's primary wheels. It is designed for heavy-duty trucks with dual/twin rear wheels (dually setups), multi-axle commercial vehicles (6x6, 8x8, 10x4), buses, and specialized trailers.
By default, GTA San Andreas only rotates one dummy per corner (wheel_lf_dummy, wheel_rf_dummy, wheel_lr_dummy, wheel_rr_dummy, etc.). ModelExtras detects any extra wheel meshes placed under x_wheel nodes and synchronizes their rotation in real-time with the corresponding base wheel.
🧩 Supported Node Names
| Node Name Prefix | Associated Base Dummy | Typical Use Case |
|---|---|---|
x_wheel_lf |
wheel_lf_dummy |
Left Front extra wheel |
x_wheel_rf |
wheel_rf_dummy |
Right Front extra wheel |
x_wheel_lm |
wheel_lm_dummy |
Left Middle axle extra wheel (6x6 / 8x8) |
x_wheel_rm |
wheel_rm_dummy |
Right Middle axle extra wheel (6x6 / 8x8) |
x_wheel_lr |
wheel_lr_dummy / wheel_lb_dummy |
Left Rear inner/outer dual wheel |
x_wheel_rr |
wheel_rr_dummy / wheel_rb_dummy |
Right Rear inner/outer dual wheel |
💡 Multiple Wheels Support: You can add multiple extra wheels per position simply by adding numerical suffixes (e.g.,
x_wheel_lr1,x_wheel_lr2,x_wheel_rr1,x_wheel_rr2).
🏗️ 3D Model Hierarchy Example
For a dually pickup truck (e.g., Ford F-350 / Yosemite with dual rear wheels):
chassis
├── wheel_lf_dummy
├── wheel_rf_dummy
├── wheel_lr_dummy <-- Left Rear Outer Wheel (Base Game)
├── x_wheel_lr <-- Left Rear Inner Wheel (ModelExtras Synchronized)
├── wheel_rr_dummy <-- Right Rear Outer Wheel (Base Game)
└── x_wheel_rr <-- Right Rear Inner Wheel (ModelExtras Synchronized)
⚙️ How It Works
- Zero Configuration: No JSONC file is required! The feature works entirely out-of-the-box via node naming.
- Rotation Matching: The plugin reads the instantaneous pitch angle from the vehicle's native wheel and maps it to the
x_wheelframe each frame. - Physics & Suspension: The visual rotation matches vehicle acceleration, braking, and burnout speed accurately.
