Discussion Summary

  • Issue #108 - Replace the Subidentifier Field with a Relationship Object

    • Polly Okunieff (ICF): The relationship may be bounded by space (parent child), time (first, next), or both. Are we overloading the relationship type?
    • Sabrina Mosher (SwRI): Could we have a more miscellaneous relationships field to encompass relationships that don't necessarily fit in with those relationships? For example, TxDot has been using subidentifiers to indicate the district the data is associated with but that wouldn't fit exactly into the relationships here.
    • Kali Fogel: Does it really matter as long as someone makes it consistent in their feed?
    • Sabrina Mosher (SwRI): we could add project later which isn't the same as district
    • Skylar Knickerbocker (Iowa State): agree
    • Valerie Shuman - SCG for ICF: Would encourage that these ideas about "first", etc. are defined by business rules. I would also encourage us to think about a vehicle driving nationwide - the fewer new definitions in each jurisdiction, the better
    • Carole Delion (MDOT SHA): Agree with Valerie
    • Sabrina Mosher (SwRI): can you have more than one parent?
  • Issue #82 – Include Detour Information

    • Valerie Shuman - SCG for ICF: there is a lot of other work out there on items like weather... i think we need to be very thoughtful about this
    • Jacob Brady: I am just throwing ideas out of what could be implemented given the addition of a type, I'm not proposing implementing a weather type specifically. It could stay as only detour and work zone forever
    • Valerie Shuman - SCG for ICF: i respect that - i'm just concerned that it becomes very easy to start reinventing wheels. we might want a policy that encourages referencing other work rather than reinventing. for each new "type" that comes up for consideration
    • Skylar Knickerbocker (Iowa State): i'm good with it
  • PR #94 - Clarify Lane Types & Usage of Lanes Table

    • Kali Fogel: How does TMDD structure it?
    • Valerie Shuman - SCG for ICF: have we looked at the SAE TIM for this? for AVs, also consider that if the IOO wishes to exercise any jurisdiction about where the vehicles route themselves, we need to think about how that plays out
    • Skylar Knickerbocker (Iowa State): shoulder width is part of HPMS so I assume it should be available somewhere
    • David Craig @ GM: I obviously vote for the shoulder to count as a lane.
    • Rob Hoyler - TomTom: Need to think about the guidance that is given to the driver & how they perceive that - they think in terms of lanes and shoulders, as opposed to lane numbering.
    • Valerie Shuman - SCG for ICF: the goal is to identify the various areas of the roadway so that you can describe what's going on there. the system receiving the data can translate for the user
    • Eli Sherer - GEWI NA: http://ntimc.transportation.org/Documents/12.13.10_laneDesignation-2pg-printer.pdf
    • Valerie Shuman - SCG for ICF: iso GDF has a lane model...
    • Sabrina Mosher (SwRI): so if there are two entrance ramps on the same side, would right entrance ramp indicate the rightmost entrance lane?
