Screw Press - unforbidable/tfcplus-bids GitHub Wiki

Description

A wooden press that uses a lever driven by a screw to generate a great pressing force. The screw can be turned by powering the attached axle.

Construction

Screw Press is a 5x3x1 multiblock structure made up of Basin with Basket, Bottom Rack (2x), Top Rack, Pressing Disk, Lever and Screw (2x).

Place a Bottom Rack, a Basin with Basket and another Bottom Rack in a row next to one another. Then place a Top Rack on top of the Bottom Racks.

Place the Lever on the side of a rack and it will extend 2 tile away from the Rack, where the Screw needs to be placed vertically and attached to an Axle bellow, above or both directions if desirable.

Place a bearing so that the Screw can be placed two tiles away from the Screw Press Rack. Screw needs to be the 2nd and the 3rd tile above the ground. The tiles below (1st tile above ground) and above the screw (4th tile above ground) can be any block, however it is recommended to place Axles or leave empty to avoid clipping when the Lever rotates to its extreme positions.

At least place a Pressing Disk on top of the Basin with Basket.

Usage

Up to 5 stacks of input material can be places into the basket however the stacks are processed one by one.

Input material can be placed into and removed from the Basket via GUI when the Pressing Disk is removed. Remove the Pressing Disk by right clicking it with an empty hand while sneaking, or by breaking the block. The lever is moved to idle position and secured, and pressing operation is paused.

When the Pressing Disk and the Lever are placed, the lever angle will adjust to press on the disk according to the input material volume. The lever will be in its highest position if all the input slots are taken and the stacks are full or if the weight of the food items is at the maximum of 160 oz. If there is no item, the lever will fall to its lowest position.

Output fluid is collected into the Basin under the Basket over time as the input items are consumed during the operation. The maximum capacity is 8000mB. The fluid can be collected any time by right clicking it while holding a compatible empty container, a large vessel or a barrel. The operation will automatically pause when the basin is full.

If applicable, output solids are placed into the output material slots in the Basket, and can be removed via the GUI when the Pressing Disk is removed. The operation will automatically pause when the output slots are full.

Automatic operation

Powering the axle above or below causes the Screw to rotate and operate the press.

The screw press adds a great deal of load to the mechanism system and several gears may be needed to speed down the axle rotation and to reduce the power needed for the operation. The more power is provided, the faster the press can operate.

The load depends on the firmness of the input material. For example grapes can be pressed more easily than apples, add less load, and can be pressed at higher speed with the same amount power.

When all input material is pressed the Pressing Disc drops as low as in goes and the mechanism system will become blocked. To unblock the mechanism system, remove the Pressing Disc to release the screw nut.

Notes

  • Crafting the parts requires 3x3 crafting grid, the Screw requires a saw and chisel to craft and the Basket requires a tool metal plate therefore at least Copper Age is required.
  • Screw Press continues to press when the player sleeps or leaves the area, much unlike the classic TFC Stone Hopper press.
  • Compared to the classic TFC hopper press, using a single waterwheel with minimal water column, pressing Grapes can be about 1/4 faster, but pressing Apples will be about 1/4 slower.
  • Compared to the classic TFC hopper press, the Screw Press is 120% as efficient, which means less input is consumed to produce 1 unit of liquid. The efficiency can be changed in the configuration.
  • The Screw Press will accept food stuffs that have been cooked, but not if they have been processed in other ways (such as brined or pickled).
  • The screw nut and the lever always move down during the operation, no matter the direction the axle and the screw is turning, for the player's convenience.
  • Other devices can attach to the screw via an API.
  • Given that the screw lead is 1/8 of block and its diameter is 0.3 of a block, the screw provides roughly 7.5 (ideal) mechanical advantage. The lever provides mechanical advantage of 3. This is on top any mechanical advantage provided by the gears.

Future features

  • It will be possible to operate the Screw Press manually.
