Campaign Monitor

As of the end of July 2021, the library is using Campaign Monitor for newsletters. We had to move away from Mailchimp for security reasons. There are six library newsletters that go out monthly or even less (sometimes there won't be enough content). These are registered with the campus.

For consistency and efficiency, a template with the standard structure has been created for all regular newsletters and should be used as a starting point.

Steps

  1. In upper right, go to name > My Templates
  2. Click on the cog for the correct template and choose Create Campaign

  • Name campaign using date convention: 2021 Sept Makers Lab

  • Subject line: What's new in Data Science
  • From and To: varies and must set each time. Choices don't save in a dropdown.
  • Select Recipients and choose the correct mailing list

Date needs to be updated each month, but the rest of the information is the same each time.

NEXT Edit the template to populate with current content

  1. Add optimized images with links and alt text
  2. Copy the right range of events from the RSS tool and paste into the Recent news section
  3. Copy the right range of events from the RSS tool and paste into the Upcoming Events section
  4. Preview and check links and layout
  5. Review and Test > send a test email (first to self and then to the newsletter owner in the case of Makers Lab - Dylan and Data Science - Ariel)

  • Mailchimp had automated posting, but with CM it's all manual
  • design a workflow that makes it easy to copy the CM link and post with the standard text and image for each newsletter
