Kiosk page - uajqq/weewx-belchertown-new GitHub Wiki

The Kiosk page is similar to the Raspberry Pi Console page, but with a bit more information, as it is designed to be displayed on a 1280x800 resolution screen. It can be run from the display of Raspberry Pi (connected via HDMI), a laptop, or as part of a "Home Information Center". Just like the Pi Console page, when used with MQTT Websockets, the timeout is disabled by default.

It looks similar to the layout of the homepage, but the only has the current observations, and forecast, as it is designed for a 1280x800 resolution screen. As such, does not include the navigation bar, logo, the header.inc file, or any charts. The index_hook_after_*.inc checks are also commented out, remove the comment markers from kiosk.html.tmpl if you wish to re-enabled them.

To have a Raspberry Pi display this page on reboot, you can put the following into /home/pi/.config/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart if running the desktop version (or have lxde installed on the lite version) of Raspberry Pi OS.

@sed -i 's/"exited_cleanly":false/"exited_cleanly":true/' /home/pi/.config/chromium/Default/Preferences
@sed -i 's/"exit_type":"Crashed"/"exit_type":"Normal"/' /home/pi/.config/chromium/Default/Preferences
@chromium-browser --start-fullscreen --kiosk --disable-site-isolation-trials --enable-low-end-device-mode --renderer-process-limit=2 --app=http[s]://<localhost|hostname|IP>/[path_to_skin/]kiosk.html
@unclutter -idle 0.1

For the most part, the Kiosk page will follow the same settings as the main homepage. Below are the settings specific to the Kiosk page, they go under the [Extras] section of the skin config in weewx.conf.

Name Default Description
mqtt_websockets_host_kiosk "" If the kiosk will be running on the local machine, you can put localhost here, or any other host needed. If left empty, the mqtt_websockets_host value will be used, and all other MQTT settings for the kiosk page will be ignored.
mqtt_websockets_port_kiosk "" If the MQTT port needs different, set it here, if left empty, the mqtt_websockets_port value will be used.
mqtt_websockets_ssl_kiosk "" Set to 1 if ssl should be used, if left empty, the mqtt_websockets_ssl value will be used.
forecast_interval_hours_kiosk 24 AerisWeather Only Determines which forecast is displayed when a new browser session is opened.
aqi_enabled_kiosk 0 Enable AQI for the kiosk page. If disabled, then in place of the AQI will be the current inside temperature and humidity reading.

Please note:
Displaying the inside temperature and humidity requires that those readings are in the weewx_data.json. If your site is publicly accessable, anyone on the internet could see your inside data, from the json file, even if you don't allow access to the kiosk page from the public internet.
radar_html_kiosk "" If you want to use the NWS radar, or the AerisWeather map, put the URL of it here (it will be a very long string), or leave blank if you want to use the same radar as the homepage.

After going to the site, select what setting you would like. If you select "weather for location" you will get a color overlay of watches and warnings for your area, you can also change the base layer to match your default theme ("Satellite" or "Dark Canvas" for the dark, any of the others for light), then click on "hide menu", next copy the url in the address bar to your weeewx.conf file.
radar_width_kiosk 490 Width of the radar.
radar_height_kiosk 362 Height of the radar.

It is also suggested, if you are going to display the inside temperature and humidity, to shorten the labels for inTemp and inHumidity.

    [[[Labels]]]
        [[[[Generic]]]]
            inTemp = In Temp
            inHumidity = In Humid
