Using text only mail readers, it is not possible to send binary files through E-mail because of the possibility of non-ASCII characters being lost or converted to other characters. A utility, such as PMUUE, will convert a binary file into a set of ASCII characters (UUencoded format) which can be sent through E-mail and converted back into binary format once the destination is reached."

LX lite — a compressor for OS/2 executables.

This is a fantastic program to pack OS/2 executables in Linear Executable (LX) format. OS/2 uses the LX format for .EXE, .DLL, .PDR, .QPR, .DRV, .FON and .SYS files. Virtual Device Drivers (VDDs) for DOS sessions are also in LX format. You can even compress the OS/2 kernel (os2krnl)!

LX compresses the files in the same way as LINK386 does. The decompression algorithm is part of the OS/2 WARP program loader. So files compressed with LX are "simple" OS/2 executables. There's no additional stub program necessary to uncompress the compressed files.

Authors: originally by Andrew Zabolotny, Russia (1996-1997); maintained by Max Alekseyev, Russia (2001-2015), Silvan Scherrer / bitwise works GmbH, Switzerland (2017).

Free for individual use, except "you cannot distribute ARJ self extracting files publicly without a license".

NELite — Experimental NE file repacker.

"NELite packs programs, libraries and drivers that are stored in segmented NE (New Executable) format. Actually, you could use LX lite to convert them to paged LX (Linear eXecutables) since the LX format does not have the simple /Exepack:1 "compression", but also the much better /Exepack:2. But the NE format has a small header and ancillary expenses. And /Exepack:2 compressed files do not compress as good as Exepack:1 or no compression and then using a usual ZIP/ARJ/RAR file compressor."

Author: Veit Kannegieser, Germany (2002-2004).

2004-06-30: Unnumbered release.
