FAQ - twitchtv/igdb-contribution-guidelines GitHub Wiki
I want to add a new game! Where do I submit my contribution?
- Go to IGDB.com
- Click Games (you'll find it at the top of the page, next to the search bar)
- Click + Add Game
What happens after I’ve submitted my contribution?
Your contribution will be pending until it's been reviewed by an admin.
How long does it take for my contribution to get accepted?
Your contribution will be reviewed based on an internal priority system. You will get a notification on IGDB when your contribution has been validated. Priority is based on:
- Who contributed to the change group (Admins/Keepers)
- Association with an Event page within a 30 day window
- Association with a release date within a 30 day window. This is something that anyone can add that will directly influence the priority score.
- Votes on your change group. This is something that anyone can do to directly influence the priority score.
- Verification. This is reserved for publishers and developers who have had their account verified. The priority score will only be influenced by the games that your company is associated with.
ℹ️ We usually do not review any contributions during the weekends and holidays. If you contribute anything during that time, please take into consideration that it may take longer to have your entry validated.
What happens if my contribution gets rejected?
You will get a notification on IGDB saying that it's been 'discarded'. We usually will give a reason via our comment system when discarding as well.
Why isn’t [game title] accepted in the database?
If an edit ends up being rejected the reason is probably one of the following:
- The edit is filled with incorrect information or media.
- The game already exists in the database (Duplicate entry).
- The edit contains content that isn’t supported/allowed on IGDB.
- We reached out to ask a question but didn't get a response.
- The entry has no gameplay or links so we can't validate the entry.
I'm a game developer/publisher and I would like to own a specific game page on IGDB. Is this possible?
It's currently not possible to own specific pages.
I/my company wants to add a brand new game but we don't want it to go online until a special date. What do I do?
We currently do not have an embargo feature on IGDB, which means that once a game has been validated and accepted, it will appear immediately on IGDB and other sites that use our data (Twitch included). If you have a project that is heavily reliant on a release date, please contact us in Discord first so that we can look into how we can assist you. Please keep in mind that everything is dependent on the game and the situation.
- Putting 'delisted' as a status on your game page will not hide the game on IGDB or other pages.
Talk to us in the comments!
We have a comments feature that is linked to the contribution's change page. Leaving a comment is optional, but it will increase the likelihood that your entry will be accepted. Additional information, links, and gameplay will also help us validate everything faster, so please send us a message if you have time!
How to find the comments channel There are two paths you can take to get to the comments:
- After adding your contribution, you will see a header above the description on the game page. Click the link to get to the comments.
On the validation page you can take a look at your own contributions, as well as leave a comment on the right side.
- The second way is to simply scroll down to the bottom of the page until you see a small menu on the right side with a clickable link that says 'Previous changes' (under 'Other').
