1) First step is to download and install openEMS, hyp2mat (part of the openEMS project), and paraview.

Download the jPCBSim Snapshot 2018-09-15 (zipped dist folder) and unzip. If you have Java 1.8.x installed, then the software can be started by clicking on jPCBSim.jar in the dist folder, or 'java -jar jPCBSim.jar' inside the dist folder.

Select Edit/Preferences in jPCBSim and define the locations of the openEMS,paraview binaries, and specify and folder that will contain your projects.

The default project will be created in the project folder specified if it does not already exist. You are now ready to press the 'Simulate' button. As the simulation progresses, try switching between the Console, Smith Chart, and S-Parameter tabs.
