Growing Animals

Ad Astra makes no changes to the vanilla farm animals except for horses. When these are bred together, realistic genetics take the place of the random process in vanilla Minecraft so that desirable traits may be deliberately developed. You will find, however, that farm animals can only be found in close proximity to farmers...

However, you'll find there are a lot more animals in the world than just the usual domestic farm animals. Wild animals abound in all biomes, and you can use the Animal Net to capture them. Just be careful; not all of them are friendly. Once you have them, though, you'll want to make sure they are feed and have adequate items to play with in their enclosures. With sufficient care, you can even breed them to make a zoo.

Growing Fruit & Nuts

HarvestCraft adds a large variety of fruit and other useful trees. Like the other trees in Ad Astra, these are "dynamic" trees which grow in gradual stages from seed to full-size. Unlike standard trees, these will randomly form buds under leaf blocks from time-to-time. These may be harvested by right-clicking once they are mature. The fruit will drop off the tree if it's ripe, and another bud will eventually form somewhere else.

Growing Crops

Ad Astra uses Pam's HarvestCraft to supplement the usual food crops provided by vanilla Minecraft. You'll find small, wild gardens scattered around the world which contain seeds for many different plants. Bring these seeds back home and cultivate them in your own farm.

Growing Trees

Ad Astra provides the usual variety of vanilla trees, but all are "dynamic" trees which gradually from a seed to a full-sized tree. Be careful when you cut them down... they topple over as a tree ought, and may cause injuries on the way down!

Farming Machines

MrCrayfish's Vehicles mod adds a tractor with various attachable trailers to make your farming much easier. Check out your options when setting up your farm. For a compact, and high-tech solution to growing a single crop, check out the Phytogenic Insolator from Thermal Expansion.
