The Amazon Fire tablet is the cheapest way to run the Cozmo app. A Fire 7 with 8 GB can be purchased for $49 and is sometimes available on sale for less.

Device Driver Issues

Unfortunately, Windows sometimes "loses" the Fire device drivers. This problem has been seen on both Windows 7 and Windows 10. The solution is to get the drivers from Amazon and install them manually.

1. Download https://s3.amazonaws.com/android-sdk-manager/redist/kindle_fire_usb_driver.zip
2. Extract the .exe file from the zip archive.
3. Run the Fire_Devices ADB drivers.exe file to install the drivers.

Fixing Flaky Behavior With a Hard Reset

FireOS sometimes gets corrupted in ways that lead to strange behavior. One tablet started spontaneously waking up from sleep mode and displaying ads; another lost its ability to communicate via the USB cable.

The solution to flaky behavior is to do a hard reset: hold down the power button for THIRTY SECONDS. Yes, that's a long time. Afterwards, power the tablet up again and the flakiness should be cured.
