Believe it or not, the IXV actually flew. And its due to fly again ! This thumb-looking reusable spacecraft was launched on the Vega rocket on a sub-orbital trajectory. Building on this success, the SpaceRider vehicle was developped. It should first launch in 2022 on top of a Vega C rocket, which sould send it all the way to orbit. Both the IXV and the SpaceRider are uncrewed cargo vehicles, like small-scale orbital labs.

With Knes, you may actually want to launch your StarRider atop the DLA-P launcher, but a Vega C would probably be as convenient. Oh, and you can fit up to 4 hothead Kerbals inside ! By the way, the StarRider lands on 3 landing skids, and is slowed down by a deployable paraglider. Because why not ?
