Without guests, you are just loosing money. So it is important to attract the right kind of guest to get some income. The most important tab you need to keep an eye on is under Guests - "Guest types". Influence points determine the amount of bookings that come in each day. But influence points only comes with good reviews and when you starting out you don't have any reviews yet ??? That is where advertisement comes in, when running advertisement for a certain guest type, you will attract some guests regardless of your influence points. In theory you could stop advertising once the influence points are above 1 and you are getting good reviews.
