Note!

1824 contains an alternate map, Cisleithania. It can be played with 2 or 3 players. It uses base game and then some modifications which is shown in section X (2 player) and XI (3 player).

Refer to 1824 page for most information. The page you are reading now contains information particular to Cisleithania variants.

Rules Clarifications

  • Starting capital for 3 player on Cisleithania map is 700 Gulden. See BGG thread: 3 player cisleithania starting treasury error.
  • Bukowina bonus applies also for 3 players when using Cisleithania map. See BGG thread: 3p variant in Cislethania: Bukowina bonus?. (Actually, the thread uses Cislethania, instead of Cisleithania.)
  • Some clarifications for 2 player (on Cisleithania map) variant. See BGG thread: Questions about 2 player variant. I also recommend anyone playing the 2-player variant to check the rules in the rulebook for the variant, as it is a bit different from other player counts.
  • Player order during SR 1 for 2 player is given in the rule book for the first 4 turns (reverse in turn 1 and 4, regular in turn 2 and 3). For turn 5 (MR selection) and later the player order is regular.

Variants and Optional Rules

No variants exists on the Cisleithania map, except the variants you get with the different rules for 2 and 3 players.

Implementation Notes

  • In the 2 player variant, a regional that is connected to the coal mine selected in stack 1, becomes a "bond railway". This term is not used in the rule book, but was introduced by the implementer. The two minors in stack 1 are called construction railways.
    • Construction railways do lay track (for free) and do not run trains.
    • The bond railway only payout current stock value each OR. The 20% certificate in the bond railway works as a double share, so when you buy/sell shares in the bond railway you might have the choice if your buy/sell should include the 20% certificate or not. Bond railway shares are treated as regular share, so the stock price will be affected by payout, by being sold-out, by sell actions. A mountain railway can be used to exchange for a 10% share in the bond railway.
