Failsafe mode - tobiaswaldvogel/openwrt-ib42x0 GitHub Wiki

The failsafe gives you an emergency access if you messed up your network configuration or something similar.

After power up, first both LEDs are off, then the green LED turns on, indicating that the kernel is loaded an initializing. After a few seconds the Orange LED is lit for two seconds. This is your chance to activate failsafe.

There are two options:

  • The button on the back
If you press and release this button within the two seconds, then your Overly FS will be deleted and your NAS will be restored to default, i.e. network address by DHCP, password 'welcome' a.s.o. So this is a total factory reset

  • The button at the front
If you press and release this button within the two seconds, then you will notice the orange LED will stay lit, which means, you activated successfully the failsafe mode. The IP is now 192.168.1.1, to make sure that it even works if you deleted your network configuariton. If you set a password however, this is still valid for security reasons. The overlay is mounted on /tmp/overlay, which gives you a chance to remove the problematic change.
