After picking up the pieces and establishing Terra as a player in the galactic table, the Council of World Leaders sought to establish a new capital from which to operate. With most of the northern hemisphere mostly destroyed by The Day of Conquest and The Occupation, the choices for a new established government were among the Oceanic, African, and South American continents.

With access abundant natural resources along with consistent weather year-round, South America became the obvious choice. Flanked by the Andes mountains Bakatá was built as the new central hub for earth, with its name taken from ancestral folklore of the defunct indigenous tribes of the area.

Construction of the city began in the year 2526 and finished just four years later in 2530 when the repopulation efforts began. The city was engineered from the start to integrate the beauty of Terra's nature with the technological advancements that propelled humanity to it's current status earning it the nickname of "The city of eternal spring". Bakatá is built as a web with several concentric rings expanding outwards with interconnecting roads. Among it's notable landmarks are the various museums and memorials belonging to the Terran Legacy Restoration Project, the Spira Space Elevator, the galactic trade embassy, and the Whitland library.
