Changing the nozzle in the hot‐end - tkocou/V400-Files GitHub Wiki
Tools Needed: 7mm 6-sided socket for a 1/4 inch ratchet
A 1/4 inch torque wrench (suggestion - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BH572S7Z)
Nozzle needed: Volcano style nozzle - High Flow type. Regular nozzles will develop too much back pressure and breach the seal between the nozzle and the heat break.
-
With the hot-end at room temperature, remove the old nozzle.
-
Coat the threads of the new nozzle with a thin layer of boron nitride paste. Keep the paste away from the 1.75 mm opening end of the nozzle. (suggestion - https://www.amazon.com/Slice-Engineering-Boron-Nitride-Paste/dp/B088CHBZQ4/) Doing this will help with thermal conductivity and provide some lubrication as you torque the nozzle.
-
Screw in the new nozzle by hand until the nozzle seats the internal heat break.
-
Set the torque wrench to 4.0 nm breaking torque
-
Using the torque wrench, tighten the nozzle until the wrench 'clicks'
-
Raise the hot-end temperature to somewhere around 280-300 C
-
Once the hot-end temperature stabilizes, re-tighten the nozzle to 4.0 nm (like step 4)
-
Set the hot-end to cool-down.
-
Once the hot-end and build plate are both at room temperature, re-run the following calibrations: Z Offset, End Stop, Delta Calibration and Bed Leveling. << UPDATE: Read the Calibration Tips before doing the mentioned calibrations.
If you happen to change the old nozzle with an identical nozzle, great. No further changes are needed.
However, if you changed the old nozzle (Brass) for a different type of nozzle (Hardened Steel, diamond or ruby tipped, plated brass, etc.), you should also run the Measuring Resonance procedure and then the Fine Tune Size Calibration procedure - In that order!
Why do those procedures in the stated order above? The hot-end and print bed need to be at room temperature when running the resonance measurements. Where as the Fine Tune Size Calibration will be printing a calibration model. It takes many hours for the printer to cool down to room temperature.
Why those procedures? Physics! The difference in weight (mass) between the old nozzle and the new nozzle will change the resonance of the hot-end. And with a change of resonance, the size calibration can be affected as well. Better safe than sorry.
Hint: When you follow the Measuring Resonance procedure and you get an error when issuing the command ACCELEROMETER_QUERY, check the printer.cfg file. You probably forgot to activate the [include adxlmcu.cfg] file.
