BCKI Book Criteria

  • Scholarly books for all subject categories are candidates for selection;
  • Time span: Publication year equal to 2017 through the present;
  • Not accepted: Trade or consumer books, textbooks, atlases, illustration books, photography books, reference books, handbooks, manuals, fiction without commentary, books for a general audience, or books without cited references;
  • For detailed information on BKCI Evaluation and Selection Criteria, please see here.

Joining the programme

For each new publisher to be considered for a partnership, an evaluation process is undertaken by the BKCI Editorial Team. For Thoth Plus publishers, this connection will be facilitated on behalf of the publisher.

For consideration publishers must provide:

  • a link to their website;
  • a short description of the publishing house;
  • their peer review and editorial policies.

Publishers must have 10-20 titles in their catalogue ready for evaluation. If it is clear that the majority of a publisher’s catalogue and policies do not align with BKCI priorities and/or any of the criteria detailed here, a partnership will not be established. Publishers may reapply in the future if subsequent books meet requirements.

File Delivery

  • Protocol: FTP upload
  • Ebook files: A single pdf file of each book is requested:  Low resolution, web-ready files free of Adobe securities.
  • Metadata: CSV

Processing

From submission to inclusion in BKCI, evaluation and processing of books can take 6-12 months. Clarivate state that they receive large volumes of requests for evaluation, resulting in longer evaluation timelines than customers may expect.
