Installation - thomasblasquez/outlander GitHub Wiki
Outlander is installed using Wabbajack, a free tool that can automatically install mod lists. Please keep in mind that you need Nexus Premium for mods to download automatically, otherwise you will need to hit download on each mod. Wabbajack will guide you through this process.
Requirements
Install these BEFORE Outlander!
- Wabbajack
- Ensure you login with your Nexus account in the settings menu!
- Morrowind GOTY on Steam
- Outlander does not currently work with Bethesda.net, disc, or GOG versions.
- Make sure Morrowind is NOT installed into program files! See this guide.
- Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86)
Installation
- Make sure you have all of the requirements installed!
- Run Morrowind to the main menu at least once, then exit to desktop.
- Create a folder on the same drive Morrowind is installed. This will be your
Outlander
folder. - Download the
Outlander.wabbajack
file from the latest releases, or download from the Wabbajack gallery. - Open the file with Wabbajack, and select the installation folder you created in step 3.
- Allow the installer to run. If you do not have Nexus Premium, Wabbajack will guide you through downloading each file you need. However, I highly recommend getting Nexus Premium if you are able.
- Once the installer has finished, open up your
Outlander
folder, thenStock Game Folder
, and runMWSE-Update.exe
. - Launch
Mod Organizer 2.exe
from yourOutlander
folder - Ensure the Merged Grass mod is disabled.
- Make sure Morrowind is selected in the executables drop down, and hit run.
- In the main menu, click Options, select the Controls tab, and make sure your vanilla keybinds match the Controls page.. YOU NEED TO DO THIS! OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE KEYBIND CONFLICTS! You may customize these, but you will need to use the Mod Configuration Menu to change keybinds to avoid conflicts.
- Click New Game and enjoy!!!
If you have any issues during this process, ask for help in #outlander-support in the Discord. Make sure to check the FAQ first!
FAQ
I made a post in the Discord asking for help and nobody helped me!
Only support requests in #outlander-support
are responded to. Make sure you read this FAQ and the posting guidelines BEFORE making a new thread!
Morrowind.ini (or any other vanilla file) failed to download!
- Ensure Morrowind is installed outside of Program Files (or any other UAC protected directory)
- Ensure your Outlander installation folder in Wabbajack is on the same drive as Morrowind.
- Verify your Morrowind Steam install, then run it to the main menu.
My game keeps crashing on launch/new game!
Delete d3d9.dll
from your Stock Game Folder
I get a consistent crash while playing
Make a save right before triggering the crash, then have it crash again. Join the Discord and make a ticket in #outlander-support
. Post your mwse.log
, MWSE_MiniDump.dmp
, and save file in that ticket thread. The log and minidump can be found in your Stock Game Folder
.
My FPS is low!
20-45 FPS is normal in cities and other heavily populated cells. This is an engine limitation and your hardware won't change this unless you are using particularly ancient silicon. Your RTX 5090 TI, Ryzen 9 5600x, and 512GB of RAM will not help you in Morrowind. We are limited to a single process thread and only 4GB of RAM.
If your FPS is REALLY low (steady sub-15 numbers everywhere), try deleting d3d9.dll
from your Stock Game Folder
.
If sub-60 FPS is unacceptable for you, consider using Lossless Scaling.
I have a gameplay question
Check out the wiki. If your question is still unanswered, ask in #outlander-discussion
or #outlander-support
on the Discord.
I'm having another issue
- In your
Stock Game Folder
, runMWSE_Update.exe
- Then run
Morrowind Code Patch.exe
and click "Apply Patches." My settings are saved as the defaults. - If you can't run the MCP, ensure you have the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) installed.
- Ensure Steam is running.
- Add an exception in your antivirus for the Outlander installation folder.
- Restart your PC. DO NOT SHUT DOWN THEN TURN ON. Windows Fast Boot may keep something in memory that will mess you up. Always use the dedicated "Restart" option.
- Back up your saves from
Stock Game Folder\Saves
and reinstall the list to the same folder. Don't worry, as long as you use the same folder and haven't deleted your downloads, the install will be very quick! - If your issue is still unresolved, join the Discord and make a ticket in
#outlander-support
.
Grass is solid and cannot be walked through!
Disable the Merged Grass plugins. They are only needed for Distant Land generation
How do I disable the CRT shader?
From the MO2 executables drop down, run MGE XE, click the "Shaders" button, and click "Modding." Then find the CRT shader in the lower list and double click it to remove it. Click save and close MGE XE.
