Stereotax - theunissenlab/lab-documentation GitHub Wiki
Our lab has a new stereotax as of 2019, a Kopf 940. It is a beautiful instrument and should last forever. There are two manual arms, one of which has a digital readout of the coordinates. There is a beak bar and ear bars for holding small birds. This piece is where you set the head-angle of the animal. Fifty degrees is more or less standard in the lab. There are a number of components that are older that we have made work with our new stereotax. The square rail that is mounted along the side of the stereotax is where most of these attach. You would use it if, for instance, you want to do head-fixed recordings (urethane anesthetized or awake).
When lowering electrodes into the brain it is imperative that all jitter be minimized. Thus we have the stereotax sitting on top of an air table, and we do the final descent using hydraulic micromanipulators.
