Autoclave - theunissenlab/lab-documentation GitHub Wiki

We use the autoclave on the second floor of LKS. Technically there are two autoclaves but only one has worked for at least a year (two?). The one on the left works. To sterilize surgical instruments:

  1. Put what you want autoclaved in an autoclave bag and seal the bag (stored in the surgical room).
  2. Put the bag in the autoclave tray (stored in the histology room, in the cabinet with the microtome, as of 11/2020).
  3. Put the tray in the autoclave when it isn't being used (it's reserved most mornings, most afternoons are free).
  4. It can be hard to get the door open, don't be afraid to really pull on it.
  5. Close the door.
  6. Select program #2 (for pipette tips, I think it says).
  7. Push Start.
  8. If it doesn't start close the door harder and try again.
  9. Come back in an hour and take it out- these autoclaves get a ton of use so don't leave your stuff in other people's way. It's a good idea to use the gloves that are stored with the tray when you take it out.
