Supportive Projects

This page lists useful external projects that complement or extend the use of Caetla and related PlayStation 1 cheat tools.

mkpsxiso

A tool for building PlayStation 1 bootable ISO images.

  • Ideal for creating custom boot discs.
  • Can be used to prepare ISOs that flash ROM images to your cheat cartridge (via nxflash).

nxflash

A modern re-implementation of the classic XFLASH utility.

  • Used to flash new ROM images to cheat cartridges directly on the PlayStation 1.
  • Works seamlessly with discs built using mkpsxiso.
  • More reliable and accessible compared to the original XFLASH “back in the day.”

Unirom

An alternative PlayStation firmware/utility project.

  • Offers multi-tool functionality: booting backups, loading homebrew, debugging, and comms tools.
  • Supports dual-booting alongside Caetla in some setups.
  • Active project with ongoing development and community support.

MemcardRex

A cross-platform PlayStation memory card manager.

  • Supports .mcr, .gme, .mcx, and other formats.
  • Useful for importing and exporting Caetla cheat databases stored on memory cards.
  • Includes editing, save management, and conversion utilities.

CAEtools (archived)

A set of Windows-based utilities for Caetla, originally by K-Communications.
Archived alongside classic Gameshark firmware resources.

Windows-based cheat code compiler/decompiler for Caetla 0.35, replacing PSXCODE.COM.

  • Compile text cheat codes into memory card files.
  • Decompile Caetla binary databases back to text.
  • Supports custom block size, icons, read-only flags, and auto-sizing.
  • Required: Caetla v0.35.

PSXDEV Forum – Caetla & Tools Archive

An essential historical archive for Caetla users.

  • Hosts a large collection of old Caetla ROM backups.
  • Contains CAEtools including the early psxcode.com (DOS-only) cheat code compiler.
  • Preserves important tools and files that were otherwise difficult to find.
