Section 22: Ads for Rewards - therabidsquirel/The-Fallout-Shelter-FAQ GitHub Wiki

22.1

Q: What version are ads on?

A: Watching ads for rewards was introduced in version 1.14, and as such is exclusive to Android and iOS.

22.2

Q: What does watching ads do?

A: There are a few different places you can choose to watch ads that give different rewards. Each reward type has its own cooldown separate from other ad cooldowns. Here's a list:

  • From within the vault with no UIs open an ad button is on the left of the screen. Watching it gives caps, Quantums, lunchboxes, or pet carriers. See 22.3 for the exact breakdown of these rewards. These ads have a 2 hour cooldown and require a population of 13 to be available.

  • In the explorer UI you can advance time for one explorer by 30 minutes. This acts as if the 30 minutes had actually passed, so they find items and take damage like usual. These ads won't let you speed up going to or returning from a quest. These ads have a 1 hour, 30 minute cooldown and have no requirements.

  • In the room rush UI you can do a guaranteed rush. The rewards are no different from a regular successful rush, and a recent rush penalty is applied like usual to the failure chance if you immediately try to rush that room again. These ads have a 30 minute cooldown and have no requirements.

  • When you find the Mysterious Stranger you can watch ads to double the reward you get from him. There is a cooldown on these ads, but while they're on cooldown you immediately get caps from him like normal, so I don't know how long the cooldown is unfortunately. I don't believe there are requirements for these ads.

Q: What are the exact rewards possible from watching ads in the vault?

A: You'll get one type of item at a time from these ads, according to the following table:

Reward Chance Min Amount Max Amount
Caps 50% 300 500
Quantums 40% 5 15
Lunchbox 5% 1 1
Pet Carrier 5% 1 1

Q: I've heard the same vault will have separate cooldowns across different devices, is this true?

A: Yes, it is. Each ad's cooldown is per device, so if for example you watch an ad to get loot on phone A, you could save the game and then open the vault on phone B and watch the same ad type again. You're only limited by the number of devices you actually have.
