Overview
Team Black Arch plans to build a 2-D turn-based RPG game. This game will be designed to have 3 main characters that work as a team to fight enemies in turn-based attack style gameplay. Each character will have a role which includes Physical DPS, Mage/Healer (ranged magic-based attack and spells), and finally a tank-based character who protects the team. This game will follow the classic 2-D RPG pixel art style and will focus primarily on gameplay. The most important part of a good game is always the gameplay. However, we will utilize graphics and art design in order to enhance the gameplay. This game will be a game many RPG fans and classic Final Fantasy gamers will enjoy.
The player will use items, spells, and attacks to fight enemies to progress through the story of this 2-D RPG game. We plan on creating items and upgrades to keep players engaged as they fight their way through enemies and boss fights. Players will fight until they win or until all characters on the team die. We plan to include saves in the game so players can stop and start the game when they please.
Requirements
This project will be computer-based and will be created in Unity using scripts from Visual Studio. Unity will give us the game engine we need to create our 2-D RPG game. We will be using C# to create game scripts for Unity. An operating system that is compatible with the Unity game engine like Windows is preferable. A computer that can handle a dev environment is required.
Feasibility
Over the course of one and a half months, we hope to have the main features of the game outlined. The minimum features we want are player movement, at least one player, a map, UI integration, and some art/assets. Preferred features would be two additional maps, a combat system, dialog, customized art, effects, sound, animation, a main menu, and more players. Ideal features would be items, magic and features that would make our game even more refined. We realize that this project is quite large for the scope of the class.
